This barn conversion project involved creating a modern, luxurious open‑plan living space within the shell of an existing agricultural building. Our role as structural and civil engineers was to design a new steel frame that could be constructed inside the original barn, providing the strength and stability required for the upgraded roof. A key technical challenge was enhancing the load‑carrying capacity of the original steel frame. We developed a strategy to support and strengthen the existing structure, integrating additional steelwork discreetly within the new timber stud walls and carefully selected locations so that the engineering solutions remained hidden from view. Internally, the layout was formed using a combination of blockwork partitions and strategically placed steel beams to achieve the open, light‑filled spaces envisioned by the client.

This project demonstrates our ability to deliver versatile, bespoke engineering solutions that respect existing structures while enabling contemporary design ambitions.
